Cheyenne - The
Players
|
Art
Hoff
Art was born in
Chicago and moved to the Houston area in 1982. Art has played in several all-original rock
bands, including Texas Heat and
Stranger. In 1995, Art was needed to run
sound for a country band called Cheyenne. He was asked to join the band, as they were in
need of a bass player; Art has been laying down the bass lines ever since. Art also plays
some acoustic guitar and also is a professional sound engineer.

David Hardin
David
(a Cheyenne founding member) has recently returned to Cheyenne after a thirteen year
sabbatical (whoa, are you kidding?) raising his two children and allowing some quality
family time. With his kids off to college, David has
recently returned to the group on keyboards and saxophone.
And man, that guy can
WAIL!

Eric
Thompson
Eric began playing
the drums in the school band over 25 years ago. After later picking up the drum kit on his own,
he co-founded a Blues/Rock group with his brother and father, playing local clubs on weekends.
When this project ended, Eric and his brother joined local Country group County Line. This was
Eric's first taste of Country music. Eric was brought into Cheyenne around 2000, by former
Cheyenne keyboardist Robert Cummings, who was a former County Line member. Eric also currently
plays in a few other local Rock groups with Cheyenne bassist Art Hoff.

Herb Wayne
Herb Wayne was born and raised in East
Bernard, Tx in a very musical home where his Mom frequently played and taught piano and sang
in their local church choir. Even though Herb's father
"couldn't carry a tune in a bucket (HIS WORDS...LOL), Dad sang along loudly &
proudly! In her teenage years, Herb's Mom even sang on
a radio station in San Antonio, Tx. Mom taught
Herb and his sister Lynn to sing at very young ages and they were always harmonizing
around the piano and while riding in the car on family trips. Herb picked up the bass guitar and has been performing in bands since he
was 15 yrs old, playing continuously for numerous country and rock groups regionally
ever since.
Herb has been
Cheyenne's lead vocalist since their formation in 1991. He prides himself in trying to provide
an authentic, respectful performance of cover tunes made famous by others. Herb enjoys
playfully interacting with the crowds and most of all singing the songs that pack the dance
floor! In his performances, Herb personifies the idea that "When we help the crowd have
fun, WE have fun." It's VERY obvious Herb and Cheyenne have certainly created more
than their share of fun!!!

Jeff Hunter
Jeff comes to
Cheyenne from the NY Metro area where he spent many years playing the local club scene. He has
been a guitarist and vocalist for many Rock and Southern Rock bands. He has been playing
in bands, including some acoustic acts since the 1970’s. Jeff has spent time in the studio
recording with some original artists before moving to Texas - which is, of course, the Center
of the Country Music Universe (never mind that silly Nashville stuff). Shortly after moving to
Houston, he was asked to join Cheyenne and has been with them ever
since.

Mark McDermott
Knobs, dials,
dimmers, sliders, switches, power blocks, stupidly too many cables, an insane inventory of
connectors, flickering lights, ground loops, the alluring smell of ozone as an electrical short
starts to get longer and longer, irritated Fire Marshalls, club owners with one hand pointing
an accusing finger at an innocent looking Mark while the other hand holds a pegged out and
smoking dB Meter.

Mike Sparks
A Texas native
from San Antonio, Mike has been on and off stage for many years, beginning his checkered music
career as a road musician touring New England playing with the great country writer/singer Fred
Click in the early 1970’s. Not only a country and western player, he has worked on stage with
acts ranging from Fred to Quicksilver Messenger Service and the J. Geils Band and has done
studio work from Boston to Houston. More recently, he's worked as the steel guitarist and
fiddle player for several Houston and Beaumont area bands at clubs and casinos in Texas and
Louisiana.
